Guidance & Counselling Service
The goal of the Guidance and Counselling Service is to support St. John’s Central College students in their personal, educational and career development by providing an understanding and caring service for students. Students are actively encouraged and above all are most welcome to use the Guidance and Counselling Services throughout the academic year. The College has four Guidance Counsellors – Deirdre Dalton, Anne Noonan, Carmel Scanlan and Colette Twomey.
Services include:
- Educational guidance, career and vocational counselling, academic/learning skills development, job seeking skills and personal counselling and support.
- The service operates both on a “drop in” (no appointment needed) and an appointment basis. The time tables and the areas that the Guidance Counsellors concentrate/specialise in are displayed in their office areas. This information is also made available to students at the start of each academic year.
- The Service has a designated information area in the Information Resource Centre (2nd Floor of IRC) where students can access information for themselves.
- Up-to-date information is posted on the notice boards in the Guidance and Counselling Office – Room 306 – Level 3
- Regular updates and reminders for students are also posted on the college student web site
- Career and educational talks/seminars/presentations are also organised throughout the year at group and/or class level
The main aim of the Service is to provide support and information for students of all ages and nationalities. So whether you have just completed your leaving certificate, are looking for a career change, returning to education as a mature student or visiting from overseas we hope to be able to assist you in your personal, educational and/or career goals.
