Photographic Studies (Level 5)
Overview
This course is designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in all aspects of photographic practice. Students progress through a series of workshops and lectures aimed at increasing their perceptive awareness which culminates in the individual’s ability to apply technique to concept, thereby producing visually successful and articulate work.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate (5 passes) or equivalent
Applicants of mature years will be considered on their merits

- Studio Photography
An exploration of various genres practised, utilising professional studio equipment & materials. - Digital Studio Photography
The use of digital media in studio photography - Documentary
Investigating all aspects of Photo-journalistic, Documentary & Landscape photography. - Art of Colour
Experimenting with colour from concept to print. - Darkroom Practice
Printing in black & white and colour with an emphasis on the role of print quality in visual expression. - History of Photography
Developing an appreciation of the potency of the medium as a communicative tool. - Computer Image Processing
Using computers in contemporary photography. - Communications
- Work Experience
Facilities
Two darkrooms fully equipped for B/W and colour printing. College Studio with professional lighting systems. Medium & large format cameras are provided by the college. Students need to provide their own 35mm SLR’s.
Duration
One year Full Time with the option of progressing to Level 6
