Illustration (Level 6)

Overview

The aim of an illustration is to visually support textual information and/or a product, be it in children’s books, editorial work, (newspapers/magazines) web based media, packaging design, fashion or technical/medical illustration.

A successful illustration is one that communicates its message through the unique/personal vision of the illustrator. There is a strong emphasis on self-directed study to develop an individual voice.

The course offers students the knowledge, understanding and skills required for a creative and rewarding career in Illustration or progression to Higher Education.

It is designed to equip students with the technical skills needed to effectively convey ideas through media such as drawing and painting, as well as lens-based, digital, interactive or time-based media – a variety of methods that reflect the diversity of contemporary visual media.

Students are strongly encouraged to develop their own creative talent and problem solving ability to find solutions to communication challenges.
