An introductory course showing various different aspects of archaeology
and how it has evolved. Items to be covered include the following:
- What exactly is archaeology?
- How far back do we as a species go on this planet called Earth? A
time-line is shown and discussed. - How science has helped in modern archaeology, scientific methods
such as remote sensing (satellite imagery) and carbon dating are
explained. - First inhabitants in a Post-Glacial Ireland, where did they come from,
where did they first land and settle? - The Cult of the Dead. Ireland’s first cemeteries. Where are these
cemeteries and what is left for us to see. - Archaeology of early Christian Ireland. Early churches and
settlements. - When did the Vikings come and what archaeology and heritage have they
left us? - Beautiful, crafted stone works to be seen around our countryside
in Ireland. - Common archaeology to be seen around us in Co.Cork
